Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American TV reporter, journalist and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office in 1988. She was made chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell has appeared as an anchor and a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was on an advisory panel during the debates of 1988 between George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her work to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering in the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. She traveled with President Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions to attend summits and discuss issues such as that of the Iran Contra controversy.
