Aurora Aksnes was born on 15 June 1996 in Stavanger, Norway. She is professionally known as Aurora and sometimes stylized with uppercase letters like AURORA. Her debut E.P. Running with the Wolves, came out in May 2015 on Decca Records to great approval of music bloggers and the media. She has previously recorded two high-profile covers Half the World Away by Oasis. Oasis in a commercial for Christmas from John Lewis and Nature Boy by Nat King Cole. Her name was also recognized via a blog post from Katy Perry where Perry endorsed the song Runaway. It was her birthday. Aurora Aksnes' first musical moment was when she stumbled across a miniature piano hidden in the basement, and becoming enthralled by the sounds it produced. Jan Oystein Aksnes was her father. He urged her not to play music only for fun or as a means of growing, but that she was encouraged to pursue it. The Aksnes family encouraged her to compose. Her inspirations include famous writers Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan in addition to her love for Bjork's style. Her mom encouraged her to play her songs in public, not in order to be famous, but in order to show others how important they are and what they can do to make a difference in the world. When she was six, she began to play the piano and at nine, started writing songs. The family did not have any idea until she was 14. Aurora's success was never her dream. The singer claims she is a fan of writing music. She believes that music is the most effective method to experience anything.
